Rainbow Beach : Sun, Sand and Stunning Views
This tiny town in Queensland is mainly used by tourists as a starting point to venture out to K’gari. But, there are a few other things to do here too, that don’t just include tanning by the hostel pool.
The Rainbow Steps
The perfect photo opportunity presents itself as you walk up from the beach back into town. The treads of each step are pained in a bright rainbow. This little injection of colour is perfect to brighten every day, especially in contrast to the dark sand and choppy sea that lies on the coast.
Carlo Sandblow
A 25 minute uphill hike through the town and the jungle opens out at the huge Carlo Sandblow. The best time to visit the sand dune is definitely at sunset. This was absolutely breathtaking and quite possibly one of the best sunsets I have seen in all of Aus (and there have been many!) There’s quite a wind up on the sand dune, so sunglasses are a must to shield you eyes from the sand. Of course, like with any sunsets, taking photos is a must, and we got some of our favourite photos of the trip up on the sand dune.
Little Parliament
My favourite cafe in town! In our 4 days in Rainbow Beach, we must have come here every day, it is just that good. Their coffee is incredible and the food is just as good, especially the fish tacos. And the cherry on the top is that the menu is all at a super reasonable price. With surfboards on the walls, prints of the sea, they have nailed the decor and their aesthetic. Little Parliament provides the perfect chilled hangout for everyone.
Rainbow Beach is exactly how I would imagine a small town in middle America, where everyone knows everyone. Although there is little else to do aside from these main attractions, it is a great place for a few days of calm in the hustle and bustle of travelling or after an adventure on K’gari.
